Local trade around Hampden Square is to receive a welcome boost from Barnet Council by way of a trial of new parking measures. After consulting with local businesses, the council has decided to reduce parking charges in the existing on-street parking bays in order to encourage more visitors to the area.
Visitors will still be able to enjoy up to 30 minutes of free parking, whilst the tariffs for parking up to an hour will fall by 35% from £1 to £0.65 and the charge for parking for up to 3 hours will drop from £1.50 to just £1.
The new initiative will be implemented in the current parking bays on Hampden Way, Osidge Lane and Brookside South from Monday 23rd September 2013. The scheme will run for an initial six months, during which time the local community will be asked for feedback in order to assess how well the changes are working.
The measures are intended to attract more visitors to Hampden Square and support the local businesses based there.
Brunswick Park ward Conservative Councillors Lisa Rutter and Andreas Tambourides welcomed the initiative. Councillor Andreas Tambourides said: “This is excellent news and these measures are sure to give local retailers a real lift. The council is working hard to help local trade across the borough and I’m pleased that Hampden Square has been identified as an important area in that regard."
Councillor Lisa Rutter added: "Regenerating and revitalising our borough and boosting local businesses are key aims for Barnet’s Conservatives and our local community will benefit as a result.”
