Last Saturday, Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, successfully took up the challenge of walking across five metres of smouldering hot coals to help raise funds for the North London Hospice in her constituency. David Burrowes, MP for Enfield Southgate, also completed the challenge.
The North London Hospice provides practical and emotional support for the terminally ill and their families. The Hospice receives a small amount of funding from the NHS but relies on fundraising, donations and legacies to help raise the £6 million every year that is needed to keep going.
Theresa said, "It was pretty nerve-racking, but I’m really pleased that I managed to complete the Firewalk challenge for such a great cause. I survived the ordeal with no problems worse than a couple of blisters."
"The North London Hospice does an amazing job of caring for the terminally ill and their families in our community, so it was great to see so many people there taking part and supporting the event.”
