Theresa Villiers warmly welcomed the decision saying:
"I have stood shoulder to shoulder with my constituents who opposed the misguided proposals for a waste disposal plant a Pinkham Way."
"Residents have fought a highly effective campaign against the new plant. Time and again, the Pinkham Way Alliance challenged the figures for levels of waste and recycling on which NLWA sought to base their case for a new plant at Pinkham Way. Now NLWA have admitted that they can deal with north London's waste disposal needs by expanding their Edmonton facility."
"The news that NLWA are abandoning their proposals for Pinkham Way and withdrawing their planning application will come as a great relief to my constituents whose lives could have been blighted by the new MBT plant right on their doorstep, with thousands of extra lorry journeys contributing to congestions and major problems with air pollution."
"Defeat of these proposals is a significant victory in the campaign which I and others such as Cllr Kate Salinger and the Pinkham Way Alliance have fought."
"The question which now arises is what will happen to the Pinkham Way site? The indication from NLWA is that they will still want to use it for "delivery, sorting and transfer point for recyclable material and other waste that is collected from local households". This will be subject to consultation requirements and I will be monitoring this issue carefully to ensure that the voice of my constituents is heard loud and clear in any decisions on future use of the site."
"I would like to thank all those local residents who took part in the campaign against NLWA's Pinkham Way proposals."
