Theresa Villiers has thrown her support behind efforts being made by Barnet Police to combat burglary. She dropped into an event in St James' Church, East Barnet Road, on Saturday run by the East Barnet Safer Neighbourhood Police Team, to hear about the advice being given on how to make your home more secure against burglars. At the meeting, she was informed of the borough wide initiative being run by the police in Barnet called "Clocks, Locks and Lights" to tackle burglary and make life more difficult for the criminals who try to break into people's homes.
Following the event, Theresa Villiers said "I welcome the fall in the number of burglaries we've seen in recent weeks in Barnet but this is still a crime which can cause great distress. I therefore fully support the "Clocks, Locks and Lights" campaign which the police will be running in the borough in the run-up to the clocks changing in October. There are some highly effective low cost ways people can make their homes less likely to be burgled."
"I would encourage my constituents to take the advice of local police on burglary prevention measures. I enjoyed chatting to PS Meredydd Jones and PC Sarah Wigley from East Barnet's Safer Neighbourhood Police Team about the tips they are giving on this important issue. There is another opportunity to find out more about the "Clocks, Locks and Lights" campaign in East Barnet at a burglary awareness event in Cafe Fresco in Church Hill Road at 11-1230 on Thursday 25th September and I hope as many people as possible will be able to go along. A number of events like this will be taking place across the borough on Thursday including at an open day at the Saracens ground at Allianz Park, Greenlands Lane, NW4.
Theresa Villiers engages regularly with neighbourhood police teams in her constituency and the Community Action Panels which provide local input into policing decisions and priorities. The High Barnet community action panel has asked Theresa to let people know that they are keen to recruit new members to help them provide support and scrutiny to their local police team. To express an interest in taking on this role, you can contact High Barnet Safer Neighbourhood police team for more information.
