Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has pledged her support to two campaigns for 20mph zones in her constituency. Residents are calling for this reduced speed limit in Pollard Road, N20, and Victoria Road, East Barnet.
Theresa said: “I believe there is a strong case for introducing 20mph zones in both Pollard Road and Victoria Road. I am concerned that motorists drive too fast down these roads, both of which are narrow residential streets.”
“I recently met a large group of residents from Pollard Road who were very concerned about car crashes which have taken place there, one of which led to a child being injured. I have taken up this issue with the Council. Oakleigh ward councillor, Stephen Sowerby, is already on the case and work is underway at the Council in response to a highly effective campaign by residents.”
“I appreciate that resources are stretched at the Council because of the spending reductions that the whole public sector has had to make to deal with the deficit. However, I very much hope that some action can be taken to introduce 20mph zones in these two roads, along with other measures to improve road safety and prevent speeding.”
